All day yesterday I was attempting to rescue my laptop from the devil that is malware. It somehow managed to escape through the firewall that I have and started to ruin my laptop :(

Luckily I googled the problem and found the answer. (I hope I haven’t jinxed it by writing this).

The programme that managed to download onto my system was called ‘Vista AntiSpyware 2010.’ It looked genuine, the icon was identical to the Vista one.  Once downloaded the malware decides to keep sending notifications that state every programme on your system such as Firefox are a threat. There is no way to stop the notifications. The malware also includes a link to ‘buy’ this new product. After researching this, people have actually given their card details and have been charged for flights to random destinations.

I also have MalwareBytes on my laptop, but this malware stops it from working. After a simple google approach I found I had to delete registry keys (which I have never done before). The file in question was av.exe. Once deleting all registry keys as found on this site I rebooted my laptop and then ran Malware Bytes (which worked perfectly after deleting the registry keys.)  A whole 3 hours later my laptop was ok…apart from .exe files on my system would not work. I then had to download a .exe file extension thing from another site and all programmes were back to normal.

Then this morning my laptop didn’t like connecting to the internet. I had to diagnose and repair the problem through the windows internet connection to connect to the internet. After googling this problem I then re edit the registry so it never does that again (I hope!!).

All in all a very long winded process but it worked. I have never done anything like this but it worked so yay me :) I should add computer fixer to my cv now lol
