As you may, or may not, be aware I just came back from a long weekend in Barcelona.
I have already been before but that was literally only a day last year when I went to Spain. This time I spent 4 whole days in the city.
I can’t believe how much we crammed in such a short space of time!!
Here are some of the things we did…..
Catwalk Club on Friday night – they played the best music ever! All new music was played all night long, the DJ was the best! The club was open from 1am to 6am!! We were lucky enough to get in free as we knew some people who knew some people that got us in for free! Normally it’s about 20-30 euros to get in!
Barcelona Bus Tours – We went on 2 two hour bus rides around the city. It was sooo cool! We went past everything possible. But it was sooo cold sitting at the top of the open topped bus in the evening ! We froze our assess off!!
FC Barcelona vs R Valladolid – Saturday night at the Nou Camp stadium. I have never been to a football match but I enjoyed every minute of this one! From the Mexican waves to the chants, the atmosphere was awesome! Normally a football match on the t.v. seems to take forever to get to even half time but this match was over in what felt like such a short space of time. The final score was 6-0 and every time a goal was scored everyone got up!
I completely forgot to mention that during the game so many people were making paper planes and chucking them to see how far they went….well we did the same!! We got a random FC Barca magazine and made tonnes of planes! We chucked so many and had so many chucked at us from the people above! Fun times! We could even see loads on the pitch….if that happened in the UK then I’m sure some steward would tell you off and would have the paper plane removed from the pitch before they can continue the match. But here they carried on so we kept aiming for the pitch lol. This reminded me of ‘Paper Planes’ by M.I.A….I don’t know why
Saturday night was spent at the Elephant Club in our tee’s! The club was extremely elegant but the music was total $hit! It wasn’t even loud enough for us to hear!
Sunday we spent some time at the beach. It was so nice and sunny and although the sand got in my shoes it was just so nice being at a beach in November..crazy!! The views were awesome too! As Barcelona is such a religious city, everything is closed on a Sunday bar a few convenience stores. We were sorta stuck with nothing to do! All clubs were closed too which was a shame!
I wrote ‘pooni’ on the sand….but it didn’t quite work
Before our flight we just did some duty free shopping! Every club we went to we got in free! So i had loadsa money to buy me some stuff from duty free!
Our apartment was soo nice! It was fully kitted out and had 3 rooms with 2 beds each. There was a sofa bed for 2 other people. There were 2 bathrooms…which frankly wasn’t enough for 8 of us girls lol . It was a decent place to live for the 4 days we were there. Our apartment was on the second floor and the boys were on the fourth floor. The stupid woman on the third floor kept threatening to call the policia if we kept on making noise! I am almost certain we made enough noise….bet she misses us now lol. We also had a big pussy cat outside our apartment…random!
The city as a whole is amazing! We lived in Rambla Ravel which apparently is the ghetto part of Barcelona but we had little or no problems at all. Apart from every night at about 1am the prostitutes would come out. I wouldn’t even class them as prostitutes as most of them were ugly and they wore standard jeans and jackets. They weren’t as elegant as the Amsterdam ones lol.
The Ramblas street was always packed full of tourists and weird artists who wouldn’t play their part until they were paid! Even when they were paid they’d check to see it was not just 50 cents or change! It was almost as if the whole street was full of foreigners. But then again it is hard to spot a Spanish person when there is no typical image of what a local looked like.
The taxi drivers were the worst!! As there were 16 of us we needed 4 taxi’s every time we went out. Unlike the UK if you wanted another taxi you could ask the cab driver to sort of order some more cabs to pick the rest of us up. In Barcelona every taxi driver was for themselves. We had to wait while 4 got in a taxi. So we all ended up at the club etc at different times. They wouldn’t even speak English even though they were aware of how to! When someone called one a ‘mofo’ he definitely understood that lol. Every time we tried to hail a taxi they would simply drive away! It was madness on Saturday night as there were hardly any taxi’s but we did finally end up back at our apartment in one piece! It was too funny watching my cousin try to hail a taxi!
The people around where we lived were mostly Asian and mostly Punjabi! They were extremely pervy but we got used to it after the first day. In the end we ended up swearing at them in Punjabi as they kept saying lewd comments about us girls. One of us from our group was Punjabi so he loved it!!
Although the area we were in had some strange people, the clubs had the better looking and nicer people! Nearly everyone was foreign in the clubs so anything they said wasn’t understood lol but its all good! Most of the people seemed to be American which was cool cos I so do not mind an American Boy
The alcohol in the clubs was 10 euros per glass but what they gave us wasn’t just a shot of JD and coke…it was more like 3 shots of JD and a dash of coke! I guess it was worth it lol.
The city was amazingly clean! Every morning and night the BCN cleaners would jet wash the streets and every day the outside bins would be cleared out by a man in a big electric bin van. It’s a shame the UK can’t do this!!
We were lucky enough to have the only fish and chips shop in Barcelona below where we lived. We had a full English breakfast nearly every day! The owner was from Leicester also…what a small world!! They were so helpful as they informed us of what we could do and places to go.
The metro underground service in Barcelona was also pretty good! It was nice and clean but we caught the tube to get to the match and it was packed!! We just followed everyone walking to the stadium so we wouldn’t get lost!
We also got the Bus to the beach. The buses were so clean and cheap! It was 1 euro 30 for any single trip!
One thing that did annoy me was smoking. There doesn’t appear to be a smoking ban there. I almost forgot why we had the ban in the UK but after endless people smoking in your face and in clubs I realised how much I hate it! Every day my hair and clothes stank of fags! It wasn’t the best feeling in the world! It made me appreciate the ban we have over here!
All in all I had a great time! I don’t think I could go there again as I believe I did everything I could in that city!
Also I am so so tired after not getting enough sleep every night and I’m back at work already!! Damn I needs me another holiday asap!!

Looks like you had a really good time! Well, I shall have to try top that when I go next month. I guess it’ll feel a litle colder this time though!
