Dear commenters, please use this post to comment all updates and comments on the trial of John Cort in relation to the murder of Vina Patel.
I am not updating my blog about this so please feel free to use this and no other post to comment.
Thanks
Poonam
so are we to be assured that you will not be taking this off site as it is important for all readers to know the full story and also other peoples opinions. Is it also possible that you can recall the data that was last on about John Cort AND Brian Farell? I believe that their could be a serious miscarriage of justice here and two men could be sent down for life for a crime that they may not have comitted. All the information that has been on your site could be used as some type of evidence. As a practising law graduate, surely you would understand and relate with this Poonam
INNOCENT till proven GUILTY — May 18th, 2010 at 7:03 pmI have put a post up merely for comments, I won’t be taking part in anything. I will read over what people comment and do not want to be involved in the case at all. I will repost all the comments from previous posts here
Poonam — May 18th, 2010 at 7:18 pmWhere are you all? I would like to mention that I have just read the leicester mercury regarding brian farell (trial of murder on vina patel) and I am now feeling more than certain that there could be a miscarriage of justice on Brian Farell and John Cort. I can realte with Brain Farells statement when questioned for his allibi on vina patel on the day of her murder. Gosh….i wouldn’t know where the hell I was if I was questioned for an alibi from nearly 5 months. Does that make me guilty if I was pulled up for questioning?? Can someone clarify WHAT IS THE DNA that the police have? Is it possible for DNA to be transferred on to someones body in the event of a death?? Could these two people be innocent and are being set up?? Ok, John had a ‘murky’ lifestyle and him and Vina Patel are guilty of hiding money in the accounts but, does that make someone guilty of murder??
plodding along — May 18th, 2010 at 7:25 pmMichael..Is it possible that the husband could transfer DNA onto the body when he hugged his dead wife at the bottom of the stairs?? DNA was found only on Vina’s hands (according to forensic experts). We are being told that she was aphysiated (excuse my spelling) but what is the DNA? Has anyone been to the court and witnessed the events and can clarify this? If this is a miscarriage of Justice and they are being set up…then…who killed Vina Patel?? Who else could /would/ will stand in line for the insurance money?? Is someone gravely smart enough to set John Cort and Brian Farell up and know that they could be in stand for the insurance ?? I am feeling very unsure about this case. I hope someone from the media is reading in to this.
plodding along — May 18th, 2010 at 7:25 pmI am listening to what you have to say plodding , and I can confirm that it is very possible that someone can transfer DNA onto a body. It could be very possible that the husband transferred DNA onto the body of his wife as he hugged her so I believe the prosecutors have to question this point. The question is….are they?
INNOCENT till proven GUILTY — May 18th, 2010 at 7:26 pmi cannot find the old blog either. Plodding wern’t you going to write a new column on another blog somehwhere?
the more i read about this case the more anything could be possible. The DNA could be the result of Brians and johns sexual activity at the premises?
nameless witness — May 18th, 2010 at 7:26 pmHi nameless witness. John Cort and Brian Farell wasnt at the premises that day. I actually thought that myself but i think it has been stated that they were not in that ‘compromise’ for up to a month before the murder. Yes…I was going to move to michaels site but I cannot locate him as the site had his address on it.
INNOCENT till proven GUILTY — May 18th, 2010 at 7:27 pmI was going to move with plodding. I suppose we will have to keep with this one
INNOCENT till proven GUILTY — May 18th, 2010 at 7:27 pmIs anyone out there who can locate michaels site. I believe it probably has begun on there. Poonam…have you took the site of or can you recall it back? I would like to read the blog from the beginning as I…and others are considering going to the case on friday this week
plodding along — May 18th, 2010 at 7:27 pmWE ARE ALSO RECENT COMMENTS SO AT THE END OF THE DAY – WE SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO FREE SPEECH FOR ALL TO SEE – WHY HIDE SUCH AN IMPORTANT TOPIC?

nameless witness — May 18th, 2010 at 7:28 pm“Did you have anything to do with the death of Vina Patel on January 15, 2009?” Cort, who was dressed in a pin-stripe navy suit and pale yellow tie, said: “No, I did not.”

spice — May 19th, 2010 at 5:26 pmI know John let the 12 good people decide, the tsg did their job, money is not all accounted for leave it to the verdict of the jury
Re — May 20th, 2010 at 9:28 pmI am very uneasy about this case. You cannot believe what the papers publish as it’s snippets of an on going case that they think will make good articles and sell papers, this is not always a true reflection of the case. There seems to be a LOT more to this than meets the eye, to be honest when I first read it I considered them to Probably be found guilty upon what the papers wrote but when I looked further into this case I changed my mind. Whilst I am not saying that they are either guilty or not guilty we do need to remember that innocent people are accused, innocent people do stand trial and hopefully innocent people get found not guilty. Someone on the old blog said john cort could reclaim his life if he is found not guilty but if that happens then can he? I believe not, We all know that mud sticks. I think that names of accused and details of trials should not be released UNLESS they are found guilty. I hope the right verdict is reached whether it be guilty or not guilty for the sake of all involved including the families. I wish ms. Patels family peace after this is concluded and I wish the accused family the same peace – as we need to remember they will be suffering too.
Names shouldn't be released unless found not guilty — May 25th, 2010 at 10:38 pmApologies for my name, I meant guilty…not, not guilty.
Names should not be released unless found guilty — May 25th, 2010 at 10:46 pmP.s I think that it is also unfair to put your own personal dealings with this solicitor as part of your reasoning to think this man is guilty. I had dealings with john cort on a professional level every week over the last ten years however why would my opinions be relevant? This is not a case against his personality this is a case for murder. I meet people every day…some I like…some I don’t. That’s just life isn’t it, doesn’t make them murderers…doesn’t make them not.
Hi Names, I fully agree with your comments. At the start everything was against John but so much has happened since and so much more is still probably being withheld. I guess we will never hear the full story but as you say, mud does stick.
Poonam — May 26th, 2010 at 6:26 amverdict is guilty
sweets — May 28th, 2010 at 2:39 pmPoonam – am glad the jury returned the right verdict. As to Innocent aka Ploding, Khan etc – good always defeats evil.
sanjay — May 28th, 2010 at 4:40 pmHi Poonam
Justice — May 28th, 2010 at 9:24 pmThanks for keeping us all updated on this shocking case. Glad that the jury gave the correct verdict. I am sure Vina’s family will have some solace knowing that justice is done, I still cannot believe how someone that she trusted betrayed her all because they were motivated by financial greed, it is a real tragedy, I was watching Vina’s husband on the news and I really felt for him, these people have taken away someone’s wife & mother and they will have to live with that for the rest of their lives, glad that good triumphs over evil.
I also wish you the best of luck in your chosen career & pursuit of justice too Poonam, it was a shame that you had to be cuaght up in petty comments of these people, just because you were interested in this case, as the public should be

Justice — May 28th, 2010 at 9:36 pmApologies on a postcard to Poonam then eh guys?
You should be ashamed of your comments about Poonam as the verdict speaks volumes.
I see my critics have gone to ground on this site now, they must have ran out of insults or just a viable arguement.
I hope Vina’s family can now rest easier after justice was done. I’m sure there will be an appeal and many conspiracy theories on this one but this is to be expected.
Good luck with your future Poonam, I’m sure you won’t be rushing to blog again after this unpleasant experiance.
If anyone would like a further pathetic dig at me, please do so soon as I won’t be responding for around let’s say……29 years?
Happy days, must go, wetting myself with laughter!
Later!

Financial Victim — May 28th, 2010 at 10:55 pmI have been following this case closely in the media and read some of the blogs on here. I have met both of the men before and to be honest, I wasn’t surprised when they were arrested. As the story unfolded, it became clear to me that there was a high probability that they were guilty. When all the evidence was presented, I was certain of thir guilt although I wasn’t sure that they would be convicted. When the Judge summed up, she seened to highlight the defence’s case, but after some thought, I realised that she was telling the jury that they had to believe all the defense’s ridiculous counter evidence to find them not guilty. I believe justice has been served on these two although I think the sentances are a bit lengthy. Let’s hope the matter is closed and there aren’t ridiculous calls of a conspiracy theory.
Aftermath — May 29th, 2010 at 9:54 amDid any of u notice that when surrendra was interviewd on bbc new he didnt even look into the camera or is it just me? Btw surrendra was Vinas husband but the way he was speaking on the news didnt seen that way. Y did he open the office door just because the light was on? Anyone could have been there.. I have a funny feeling that John and Brian was sucessfully set up by her family.
its a set up — May 29th, 2010 at 12:15 pmHey Financial Victim,
Thank you again for your support, it has kept me going throughout the abuse from commenters.
We finally have answer, not too sure whether it’s the final answer, but an answer nevertheless.

Poonam — May 29th, 2010 at 12:44 pmTo all readers of this blog. Aftermath AND innocent until proven guilty are the same person. Funny to see such a turn around after all the abuse I got when all I was doing, was reporting on the case as someone very interested in the facts etc of this case. I am a firm believer in karma.
Poonam — May 29th, 2010 at 4:14 pm“I find myself very, very angry that someone can do such a thing to such a nice person for money,” Mr Patel said.
Surendra seems like a good man, he cannot believe someone would do something evil for money, well if a person has no conscience or remorse or of an evil disposition they would do anything for money
Justice — May 29th, 2010 at 6:29 pmOne thing that makes me wonder justice is her husband said it makes him angry to think someone could do such a thing to such a nice person…I’m sure that if my husband had a twenty year affair I wouldn’t want him murdered but I also don’t think I’d call him a nice person!? I hope that the right verdict was reached, I’m sure the jury listened to all the evidence and made the right decision on the facts they heard. I also agree the sentance is lenghty (I’m sure it’s not to vinas family but we all know life does not mean life!) in comparison to others ie baby p’s mum and venables and Thompson etc…I could name a fair few. There should be more structure on sentancing.
Names should not be released unless found guilty — May 29th, 2010 at 10:56 pmPoonam, ‘Aftermath’ and ‘innocent until proven guilty’ are not the same person. You’re making assumptions because we use the same ip address but believe me, we are two different people and have had different views on this. Assumptions are good not to make, especially in your trade.
