Yes folks it has already been a month since I have been working at the new job. I can’t believe how quickly time flies when you’re working!
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it but the work done here is solely conveyancing, which I don’t mind, for now. To be honest I can’t see myself here forever, but who knows what the future holds. It is great volume case handling experience, which is extremely important in the legal profession.
I have never had to personally go through the whole property purchase process but my god has this role put me off. Estate Agents are a total nightmare and constantly chasing us up, when there is nothing to update. Worst time of all is end of the month, so they can hit their targets and get their bonuses lol.
It has been good so far, minus a few issues but good nevertheless. I will be trained up on even more procedures so I can eventually have my own case load of annoying clients. Kidding!!
In the mean time I am enjoying my job and taking it easy, it has been ages since I haven’t had to worry about applying for a job and finding a job asap. So I may as well enjoy the job and my current situation to the fullest. I am however keeping an eye out every now and then for other roles that I can apply for. I don’t want to stop applying and would ideally like to keep my options open
Doesn’t time fly?!
Good to hear that you’re enjoying your job!Conveyancing sounds like fun

Conveyancing is ok, wouldn’t call it fun though lol
Poonam — April 1st, 2010 at 8:00 pmHi Pooni,
I’ve lost count of my time, I think we all have, its like i’ve always been there now, which is great. (and the newbie tasks have passed on to the new newbie).

Conveyancing sounds great fun. But I don’t envy dealing with estate agents. At least in commercial property we don’t have that to deal with: just loads of banks and in-house legal teams that don’t trust paralegals, yet.
It is nice to slow down on the job hunting tho isn’t it. My problem is that I love my job, don’t want to do anything else, So its good to have something to bug you to strive for better things.
Hey Travis..time has flown by, I only realised as the date I started at this place was 1st March.
I’m glad to hear you’re getting on well at the job. There are more newbies being taken on at this place so hopefully my newbie status will be passed along with the newbie tasks to them.
The worst thing is, if you’re not the case handler for a client/estate agents particular file then they think I’m not good enough to speak to, eventhough we have everything scanned on electronically on the system so anyone can answer the questions they have (usually!!)
I’m so glad the job hunting has slowed down but I still think I need to keep at it. Don’t want to lose my focus. That’s actually a good explanation about the bugging thing in this job. Thanks troutie xx
Poonam — April 2nd, 2010 at 5:35 pmnice easy date then, I started mid month. Good that they are taking on other newbies. Our place isn’t really, the trainees rotated so I’ve been helping them out with the basics too.
some clients are sooo fussy about that, tho sometimes I spend ages looking things up and others will just *know* if they’ve been working on the case more.
So worthwhile keeping at it. I’ve a couple of TC interviews coming up, which I wouldn’t have if I just went with the flow.
Hope you have a nice weekend. x
travisthetrout — April 2nd, 2010 at 5:44 pmAh, month end. This month being even worse, because it’s financial year end.
Got instructions on Wednesday to do a Deed of Gift that needed to be done this tax year to take advantage of CGT allowances. Standard fare – but I *hope* the client has now signed the deed properly…
Maybe things will be easier after Easter. Or maybe not… Glad things seem to be going well.
Asp — April 2nd, 2010 at 7:53 pmI want to get to a stage where I can know the file like the back of my hand as some of the case handlers do. It’s easier if you know it all from the start but it’s all part of the learning process I guess.
Good luck for the interviews, I hope they go well!
Have a great weekend too xx
Poonam — April 3rd, 2010 at 5:46 pmHey Asp thanks and glad to see you’re still with us
I hate those cheeky clients! They make you put everything else on hold as they want to make sure their legal issue is sorted asap (like you have nothing better to do, or have any other clients lol)
