6 months ago I decided I needed a plan to sort my career side of things out.
Well the 6 months are over.
Following the sequence I did for the original post
1. I am not in the same position as I was in 6 months ago
2. I have a paid legal job
3. I have cut down my contract at my weekend job, I only work Saturday’s now. The legal role I have is temporary to permanent so for now, I feel this is the best position for me.
4. Once I start getting paid I am saving, I have way too much to look forward to this year.
5. I am actually studying Intermediate Spanish now. First assignment is due soon, eek!
I can’t beleive my plan has worked. 6 months can definitely make a difference. I feel ten times more positive now that I have more experience and can use this to my advantage. I am still not quite on the trainee solicitor map as yet, but its a start. Things can only get better
Awesome! You’ve done really well!!
What’s next?
Android — March 9th, 2010 at 6:54 pmThank you Android…I guess just staying here longer…and getting more experience for now. I will be applying to places for training contracts as well as paralegal roles, as I have no idea if I’ll be made permanent here or not.

Poonam — March 11th, 2010 at 7:30 amHi Poonam – great news that you feel you have made progress over the last 6 months. Just think what you can do with the next 6! Setting goals is crucial to success. One thing that works along side them really well is having critical focuses – these are the few most important things you need to get done in order to achieve your goals. Once you have identified these then all you need to do is ensure you schedule in regular “critical focus time” when you work on a critical focus to the exclusion of anything else and without distraction. This means the important stuff gets done (eg applications) before the less important stuff. Like anything, its a habit but its very powerful. Good luck!
Trainee Solicitor Surgery — March 24th, 2010 at 1:01 pmHi there Trainee Solicitor Surgery – thank you for the comment and the advice.
I am definitely applying to more legal roles/ concentrating on the sort of areas of law that I would ideally like to qualify in and practice in the future. I am also looking at the much needed training contract applications too. I like the advice you have given. I need to write down my critical focuses and then concentrate on them to achieve my goals. It sounds like a good habit that would work wonders once I get used to it. I shall definitely be using that idea, thank you
