This week just gone by has been possibly the most longest week of my life, so far.

I started the week off with a great job in another city and by midweek I had another job offer elsewhere. The first job offer, which I accepted and went to for a few days, was just what I had been looking for. It was a great corporate firm and the role was a caseworker/paralegal role. The only problem I had was the commute. It would take roughly 2 hours in the morning and evening to commute. I went for a few days and I came to realise that I may not be able to do the journey all the time, especially if I needed to take work home with me. For the days that I went, I ended up coming home and wanting to go sleep and nothing else.

I thought long and hard about it and decided to go for the second job offer which is nearer to home. I was so confused and I hope I’ve made the right decision. In the long run, when I had my own files, it would have been harder to leave. Everything was perfect about that first job, bar the commute. The people were really nice and we all clicked immediately. They did mention that when the time is right I could go back to work there which was nice of them to say. I did try and convince one of the directors to have a firm in Leicester for me, so I hope they do lol.

So now to the new job. I officially start tomorrow as a trainee caseworker as they have described. It is temporary through an agency but it could lead to a permanent position (and I hope it does!).

I never thought I’d have to make such a tough decision but I hope for now, it’ll be the correct one. To those who commute far to work, I pull my hat off to you. And to those who helped me (you know who you are) thank you very much!

  • A tough decision, but a nice tough decision to make. You made a good call by leaving when you did, otherwise, like you said, it would have been harder.

All the best with the new place, I hope it turns out to be what you are looking for.

  • Hey Gaurav thanks, it was so hard to choose, it’s unbelievable. I hope it works out too :)

It feels weird, having to make a very adult decision, I’m not used to feeling this responsible about my actions.

  • Couldn’t you have moved to the new job, Pooni?

Still, on the face of it, sounds like you made the right decision…. even though it’s with an ‘agency’!! 3:)

  • Hey Michael I didn’t want to move just yet, it just didn’t seem right for the time being.

I hope it was the right way to go for now, the experience will add more strength to my cv whilst I look for a training contract. For once an agency has worked in my favour!

  • Hey Pooni, Sounds like you made a good choice based on your circumstances – I know a long commute can be hell, and I put up with it for 2 reasons, 1 I love my job and I’ve never been happier, but 2 because, I’ve never had the opportunity to do a similar or suitable job closer to home – so count yourself lucky!!

All the best with the new job, I’m sure you’ll work hard and find out that it is great for you too.

  • Hey troutie, thank you. I thought the same after, and I do have some experience behind me, I just need more of it and in a more in depth way.

I don’t know how you did it, definitely couldn’t do it myself at the minute.

  • Congrats on second new job! I hope it works out for you and the temp position becomes a permanent one. You made the right decision for you and thats all that matters. Goodluck for tomorrow! x

  • Hey AW thank you, I hope so too x

  • Hey Pooni! You’ve got to put yourself first. Commuting sucks, because it adds those extra unpaid hours to your working day! I hope your new job works out! :)

  • Hey Android, you’re right, it just wasn’t working for me. This new place has been ok so far, just getting used to the systems and procedures in place.
