…mumps!!
I woke up this morning with lumps on my neck which hurt!! I thought I was dreaming but I wasn’t!
Turns out I have mumps which means I can’t eat properly as my jaw and neck KILL and I can’t have anything acidic for the next few days!! I’m also supposed to talk less, like that’ll happen!!
I have to see the Doctor tomorrow or whenever he is free so I can get some sort of medicine, if there is in fact anything I can take
I had no idea I had it until I was told I had it. To be honest I have been feeling unusual for the past week so it all makes sense now
Read more about mumps here!
UPDATE!!
After spending most of the morning at the doctors I do in fact have mumps. This means I am sorta contagious for the next few days and I am off work for the next 7 days! I need a rest badly!! And because I have mumps the Local Authority need to be told…I feel special lol
hope you get better soon
Ajay — August 16th, 2009 at 7:42 pmGet well soon chuck – you definite it’s mumps though?
That went through one option for my current bout of “being unable to swallow” (I think it’s gone down to feeling as if I’ve got a ping-pong ball at the back of my throat now) along with glandular fever – Doc ended up coming up with some weird and wonderful for it though and told me to take paracetamol. Talking of which – about time for that to get a decent night’s sleep.
Soluble is best for throat problems, encourages you to drink something to

AW — August 17th, 2009 at 2:18 amAjay – thank you!
Asp – I went to the doctors this morning and she confirmed it was indeed mumps
I have to be off work for the next 7 days and rest up as much as I can. Only thing I can take for this is paracetamol. There is no other cure
AW – thanks!
Poonam — August 17th, 2009 at 11:34 amBad luck Pooni, Hope you start feeling better soon.
Michael — August 18th, 2009 at 12:21 pmThank you Michael! I am finally starting to feel better but nowhere near 100%. Rest will hopefully cure me completely!
Poonam — August 18th, 2009 at 5:12 pmO Noooo! Poonie!! How AWFUL!! Do you know how you caught it? The LHA have to be involved because its such a contagious disease, unfortunately ( you may – or may not- get a phone call for contact tracing purposes) but once the lumps are out you are not quite so infectious. Asp and your Doc are quite right, rest, paracetamol and time are the cure.
lawminx — August 20th, 2009 at 7:11 pm‘Chilhood’ illnesses, when caught as an adult, are always a shitty experience. I contracted chicken pox in my early twenties and thought the world was coming to an END!!
I do hope you get back to being your fabulous and tickety boo self before too long!
Hey Minxie I have no idea how I got it
I was told by the doctor that mumps is as easy to catch as the cold! I had no idea and thought the worst as you only apparently get mumps as a child! So far I havent had any LHA calls but I was warned about this by the doctor. I have received this saliva testing kit for laboratory purposes so I did what they wanted lol. It’s such a shame that there is no cure for this. It sounds silly but I expected there to have been a cure but was told only paracetamol will help. Thankfully the swelling has gone down and the pain along with big painful headaches has gone phew!! I am all rested out, I am definitely not looking forward to work but it was a blessing in disguise as I had been feeling pretty shitty healthwise thinking it was just the flu and I have been way too overworked recently. I have to relax a lil more as I never want to have any form of illness ever again!!
Poonam — August 20th, 2009 at 8:39 pmaw pooni, sorry to hear about the mumps. hope you feel better soon. x
