Nottingham Eye

Nottingham Eye

Not quite the London Eye, but I’ll name this new ‘big wheel’ in Nottingham city centre the Nottingham Eye for now. It’s 60 metres high, which is tall by Nottingham standards. Meaning you can see over the tops of any of the buildings in the city.

Stats for the Nottingham Eye:

  • 60 meters high
  • 365 tonnes, fully self supporting
  • 40 gondolas capacity 6 people per capsule
  • All capsules are enclosed & waterproof
  • A true 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding area
  • Almost completely silent operation
  • Superb safety record
  • High standards and professional operation
  • Set up takes 1 week by 10 qualified riggers working with one 1×72 tonne crane
  • Transport is on 11 trailers

Nothing like the real thing, the London Eye

In comparison the London Eye is 135 metres high - dwarfing Nottingham’s attempt. London Eye has 32 capsules, measuring 8m in length and 4m in diameter which carry an average of 15,000 people a day!

Even this is miniscule in comparison top the new Singapore flyer below! This is a whopping 60 metres higher that even the London Eye, racking up 165 metres! A HUGE big wheel

This wheel is set to have its first two ‘flights’ in the evening of Valentines day 2008.
