things to think about....

Child labour

Child labour

Ever wondered how it was possible to get clothes so cheap?

Well, imagine a world where we employed ‘things’ to do all the work for us and we didn’t have to pay them.. So any money we made from selling what they made would be profit. Sounds like money in the bank accounts of some lucky people with a business plan like that!

Well, harsh reality check. This really does happen.. Apart from the ‘things’ are children and they get paid peanuts. Probably literally peanuts too!

This sick practice goes on all over the world and as we seek lower prices, the market for it gets bigger and bigger. Whenever we look at our clothing labels and see that they are made in other countries, how can we be sure that a child wasn’t tasked with making it in a few hours? How do we know that a child hasn’t been kidnapped and sold to a factory to make that football, or to pick those apples, or to mould your iPod :?:

The fact is, we don’t.

Life of brands

Life of brands

Everyone has a routine right?  Wake up at x, eat x for breakfast, go to work etc..

Well, how much attention do we all pay to how much brands are taking over our lives?  They just slot into our lives so easily without much attention being paid to them.  Here is my attempt to capture as many brands that I might personally use on a typical Friday (usually one of my busiest days)..

Communication and miscommunication

Communication and miscommunication

Communication

n.

  1. The act of communicating; transmission.
  2. The exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing, or behavior.

Miscommunication

n.

  1. Lack of clear or adequate communication.
  2. An unclear or inadequate communication.

People have to communicate every day. When we go to school, work, see friends, need help and the list could go on forever. We communicate with our friends and family these days in many ways whether it be over the phone, online, face to face or even by post! We rely on this communication to know how people are and what they are up to among other things.

What does mahusive actually mean

What does mahusive actually mean

Well?  I was recently asked what it meant to say mahusive.  I had thought it was pretty obvious, but I have learned never to assume.

Ok, so it’s not actually a real word.  But, when used in the right context - ‘That was a mahusive chair!’ it makes sense right?

Take the words Massive and Huge, merge them sensibly and there you have it!  Double meanings from one word!  Great!

Isn’t English great!?  We can just make words up as we go along and it still makes sense!

Ahh, gotta love it.

Anyone else make up their own words?

Positive vs Negative thoughts

Positive vs Negative thoughts

Word associations

  • Hot and Cold
  • Summer and Winter
  • Light and Dark
  • Rich and Poor
  • Courage and Fear
  • Happy and Sad

These are just a few in the possibly endless list of things of which people will have a positive or negative view.

I do not believe that many people will be able to share the same view about both of the things in each bullet point. I know it is possible for us to have the same opinion for each set of words but we will all have an initial choice of that comes to mind when one of the words is mentioned.

Law of Attraction

Simply put, the law of attraction says that you can attract anything you want into your life by thinking about it. Or ‘like attracts like’.

I can honestly say that I agree with this law. Have you ever noticed that if you start out your day thinking today will be a great day, as long as that thought is in your head - that is how your day will be? You wake up with time to go to the gym before work, get all your work done, catch up with friends and then find £20 on your way home.

No? Well, lets think about the opposite.

Angelic Americans and Beastly Brits?

Angelic Americans and Beastly Brits?

Well, that is what the current situation is according to an article I read in The Times. Apparently the ladies here in the UK are ‘the greatest natural beauties in the world . . . when they’re 17 or 18 years old’! Is this true ladies? Are you only ‘worthy’ when you are 17 or 18 years old :?: ?

The article went on to say that a ‘truly beautiful girl’ the writer knew when he was younger had turned into ’something that surely would have been happier hunting for truffles in the forests of France or grazing on the grassy marshlands of Canada’! - Ouch  !

Booze Britain

Booze Britain

This is the scene of a window in one of many many student flats in the UK. It just so happens that it was the kitchen window I shared with 5 other people! To think that this is only after being in the place for 3 months, its not a good sign of whats going on around the country is it?! :?:

Has Facebook cost you your job yet?

Never-mind the fact that millions of people are addicted to the site, reading profiles, tagging pictures and starting groups. But now more than ever Facebook is costing a lot of people their jobs too! No, not because they are browsing whilst they are in the office. Because they are starting offensive groups!

One London bus driver started a group named ‘What we bus drivers hate about you passengers!’ Not exactly the kind of thing to be coming from a bus driver right? Well, people who commented in the group were leaving rants about ‘those slow, dim-witted ignoramuses who irritate the hell out of us every day’ and some saying ‘I hate the public, I think they are all scum’. Well, is the addiction to Facebook starting to get a little unhealthy?

I think so! :???:

This is not the first time I have read about someone losing their job to the site that they love! Are all addictions the route to a possible demise?

24hr ‘proper’ food in UK? Urban myth…

Read all + comment here www.locksleynet.com/blog

Who has ever been sat up with friends at an hour later than lets say 11.00pm? Yes? Everyone? OK, so out of those who said yes, who has ever wanted to get some food out of the house at those hours but didn’t want to have to go to the pizza/kebab/chip shop? Where are the LATE night food / coffee places in this country? I can’t speak for the whole of the UK, but definitely for Nottingham, where is there a late night food place that sells things on the menu that AREN’T mainly greasy? C’mon all you entrepreneurs, get a smart late night restaurant / chill out spot opened.. If not that, then at least maybe a late night coffee shop?

This would be great those of us who are trying to be good and not go out drinking and partying or just fancy doing something else apart from clubbing and still seem to be awake at those silly hours of the morning! I can honestly say it would cut down my partying if there was something else to do at night.. Maybe somewhere to chill without all the drinkers about the place every now and then. Not saying that I don’t like to go clubbing.. But it would be nice for there to be something else to do some nights..

One nice looking place to eat at night VS The usual.... Clubbing
