Tales From Earthsea
This is the third Studio Ghibli film I have watched so far and once again I like it!
From Wikipedia
The movie begins with a war galley caught in a storm at sea. The ship’s weatherworker is distressed to realize that he has lost the power to control the wind and waves, but is even more disturbed when he observes two dragons fighting above the clouds, one of which is even killed.
Shortly thereafter the King, receives news both of the strange omen at sea and of the disappearance of his son, Prince Arren. The King has little time to ponder on this before he is set upon and killed in a dark corridor by a young lad, who turns out to be his son Arren. The prince steals his father’s sword and flees the palace.

Be Kind Rewind
This is one of those movies where I am sad to say all the funny parts were in the trailer.

Juno
This Oscar nominated movie was excellent! As expected, with comedy throughout. The story is about a geek named Paulie Bleeker who is best friends with Juno MacGuff and the transformation in their lives when Juno gets pregnant.

Cloverfield
Excellent.
The one word to sum up this movie, is excellent! I had seen the trailer before and thought it looked a little weird but after seeing the movie I would have to say I was surprised to say the least.
The entire film was shot from the point of view of someones video camera, so there was no steady imaging. That made it seem a little more real!
Remember 9/11? Well, there were scenes in this movie that I thought looked like edited versions of that! It seemed so real at times, I almost forgot that it was actually a monster that they were running from and not falling buildings and bombs.
I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who has not seen it, but

Howl’s Moving Castle
This is another of the anime from the same producers as Spirited Away. There is something I prefer about this one though.
Maybe the fact it was actually based on a book written by a British author Diana Wynne Jones. Sometimes when there is already a story written, I think it makes it easier for the movie makers to branch out a little from it adding new ideas and making some interesting storylines.

Spirited Away
I wasn’t joking when I said I was going to be watching anime to help with learning Japanese!
Spirited Away, is the worlds highest grossing non-American film and Japan’s best ever box office earner. Strangely enough, for a movie with these credentials, I had not heard of it before until about a week or two ago. Well, I bought the DVD and watched it (in Japanese with English subs of course) and it was cool. I think I am getting the hang of this anime stuff haha. After watching the Japanese version, I played it again with the dubbed English - awful. The voices in Japanese seemed to flow the English accents didn’t sound right. Possibly due to the mixture of English and American voices which clashed terribly.
The film follows a young girl Chihiro (千尋) in the picture above in the process of moving house with her parents when they lose their way and stumble upon an entrance to a ’spirited world’. Her parents walk into a village street crammed full of shops and restaurants with tempting hot cooked food. This is set out to lure them into the trap. Her parents eat the food ‘like pigs’ to the point they eventually turn into pigs! No, really they do!

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
As I had previously mentioned, from seeing the trailer for this movie I just had to go out and watch it. Seriously one of the funniest things to be shown at the cinema. There were times whilst watching this I was gasping for air!
The story begins as Dewey has a flashback about his life (The majority of the movie), believe me his life is funny! He was always living in the shadow of his little brother when he was younger and it took a little accident to make him see that he too can be great. He soon gets over the thoughts of his brother being better than him and sets off to persue a music career against the wishes of his parents.

No Country for Old Men
Charlie Wilson’s War
An interesting movie, but maybe one to wait till it comes on TV. I think it was pretty long but very rushed towards the end! It’s not the only movie with a disappointing ending I have seen this week

Lust, Caution
What a tense movie. I saw ‘Lust, Caution’ (’Se, Jie’ - Mandarin title) movie being advertised when I went to Hong Kong and had wanted to see it since then. Little did I know how graphic this movie was going to be!
It is rated ‘18′ here in UK, which usually does mean you can expect some kind of graphical content. So things like very scary scenes, violent crime etc. I had seen the trailer and expected a tense, informative movie about WWII China. I got that, and a lot more than I expected.

1 movie to avoid and 3 to watch
I think when I went to see this movie I was expecting something completely different. I had though it was going to be a little like Old School. Sadly not. It started out alright, the opening scene was hilarious! I think that this film was made back to front though. The ending seemed pretty long compared to the rest of the story and the build up. It had gone from small town ‘big kid’ working as a performer, to undercover agent in no time at all.
There was also the woman ‘Maggie‘ who went from not knowing ‘Randy Daytona‘ to all of a sudden loving him and wanting him to have her father’s special table tennis bat
. To give the movie some credit, the funny scenes were really really funny, but the film was a bit all over the place. I would only recommend buying it when its on DVD so you can skip to the funnies and leave out the ’story’ if thats what they’re calling it.
I’ll tell you what I would recommend though when it comes out - Be Kind Rewind, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and dare I say Step Up 2 the Streets. Watch their funny trailers, I have included at the bottom of this post!

I am Legend. Lives up to expectations!
As I had mentioned previously I was going to see this movie, well I did and it was amazing! Me and my friend tried to pick it apart and find faults with it afterwards, but we didn’t find many. I won’t start slating it on here as its still a new film to us here in the UK and I want to see what other people think first.

I am Legend
Not very normal that I’d write something about a movie before I even see it but I am looking forward to this one does look really good. I have seen the trailer about the place for quite a long time now and it seems like months of build up so it had better be worth it! The reviews are sounding good as well! It has already become the most lucrative December box office opening in USA and as it tends to go whatever film is cool there is cool in the UK, so I am assuming it’ll have a go at doing the same here despite being released here on Boxing Day (26th December). Not exactly giving much time for amazing December earnings!
