Internet download spy

Is the internet about to become censored here in Britain, like it is in China?

Well, according to this, this, and this it looks like we’re headed that way here too!

Broadband providers (ISPs) are eventually going to be forced to snoop on what we are downloading on the net.

Do you use the internet to download?

I think most internet savvy people will use the internet to download various things such as music, movies and for some - ‘those horrible things grown ups do’

How many of you pay for it though? iTunes has become a huge success on the music side of it and I know there is already a booming adult entertainment business. What about movies? TV shows etc? People catch up on all their favourite episodes of TV series such as Lost, Prison Break, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. Also movies like Spiderman, Simpsons movie or Lord of the Rings. Where would you go to legally watch these?

Careful not to use any p2p programs unless they claim to be ‘encrypted‘ so ISPs won’t know what you are doing.

People who illegally download films and music will be cut off from the internet under new legislative proposals to be unveiled next week.

Internet service providers (ISPs) will be legally required to take action against users who access pirated material (The Times)

Ok, so it’s good for the record companies to have this measure in place. But, the thing that gets me is how they will identify an ‘illegal download’.

Are they going to be watching us write email? Or if you click a link that takes you to illegal content?

Sounds like something not too straight forward and my guess is that it won’t be implemented as smoothly as the reports show.

  1. LOl by saying ‘those horrible things grown ups do’ i think i know wot u mean, but ur computer is full of that shiz!!! lol

It’s gonna be hard 4 ISP’s to find out what is illegal and what isnt….will be interesting to see how they deal with people who have unsecured internet networks and people download off of that instead of their own.

  2. Good point! It hadn’t crossed my mind. My guess is that they will tell people it is their own responsibility to secure their internet connection? Lets see what happens.
