Fast Noodle Snack
I recently went into a Chinese shop and bought some noodles. What I failed to notice until I got back was that the instructions were all in Chinese. Ok, yes so maybe it should be obvious if I go to get noodles from a Chinese shop then maybe the instructions will be in Chinese.
I have put this up to show what I did to turn these dry noodles into something edible.
Noodles are not the hardest things to cook, but some people might have struggled, since its not in English.
They are chilli noodles (which I especially like) and they included chopsticks in the pack! All for just £0.99! Is this expensive for noodles?
Step by step, this is what I did..
- Firstly peel off the plastic packaging and have a glance at the instructions, if you can understand them then you need read no more ^^;
- You only need to peel back the orange part that (in English) says ‘open’, up to the red mark.. Then take out the packet contents - Chopsticks, dried vegetables, chilli oil and a silver pack of beans / nuts (I can’t actually tell which one).
- Empty the vegetables and the beans onto the noodles.
- Pour in a whole lot of hot water up to the indicated line, so it covers the noodles completely. Peel the orange side back so it keeps the heat in.
- Rest the chilli oil on the top of the hot noodles, so the oil and ingredients become more fluid.
- Leave the noodles in the boiling water. For this part, you can use your own judgement. 2 minutes seemed to be perfectly fine for me.
- Whilst you wait, you can prepare your chopsticks. Firstly you need to separate them. Look at this (funny) video on how to separate and use chopsticks.
- Then, rub them together to smooth out any splinters that there might be.
- You will need to open the red side only up to the line. Pour the water out of the packet. There is a small separator so the noodles won’t escape from the gap! Once the water has all been poured out, tear off the lid completely.
- Open the chilli oil and squeeze it all out over the noodles. Smells nice? Yes, of course it will!
- Stir the noodles to mix in the chilli oil. Then you are free to eat! Or at least try to, if you haven’t already reverted to using a fork (cheating).
You may want to check out the different varieties of noodles next time you buy. The main types you tend to find in supermarkets (in UK) is Ramen, or variations of it. Other varieties of Japanese noodles include Udon, Somen and Soba.
In the UK, we do get some strange tasting varieties of noodles. Such as Pot Noodle, which is actually quite popular (UK’s number one with 77% market share)! I do like being able to get some original imported noodles from China / Korea / Japan every now and then to refresh the taste buds!

LOL, I had actually written this a little before our little discussion but yes I know who you mean with the ‘tag’
I won’t tag anyone though, it would be mean! This post should be a lesson to us all on how to cook noodles. For those of us who didn’t previously know especially.
