Angelic Americans and Beastly Brits?
Well, that is what the current situation is according to an article I read in The Times. Apparently the ladies here in the UK are ‘the greatest natural beauties in the world . . . when they’re 17 or 18 years old’! Is this true ladies? Are you only ‘worthy’ when you are 17 or 18 years old
?
The article went on to say that a ‘truly beautiful girl’ the writer knew when he was younger had turned into ’something that surely would have been happier hunting for truffles in the forests of France or grazing on the grassy marshlands of Canada’! - Ouch
!
Maybe there is some truth about the story though.. But maybe its not just reserved for British women, maybe women who just get to a certain age and forge a ‘I am not here to impress anyone, like me the way I am or forget it’ persona. I have been to a few places around the world and noticed a striking difference in the appearance of people in capital cities compared to suburbs, but could this just be that in the cities it is a ‘fight to get noticed’? In a city such as London or New York I am sure the majority of young ‘city’ women will spend a lot more time and effort on their appearance compared to the women in a rural village.
This could be simply the competitive nature of being surrounded by so many other successful people in a compact space all trying to be noticed for jobs, men etc.
Is this the same for us guys? Do we just lose it after a certain time? Am I going to decide at 40 that I don’t care about my appearance - or even worse, not notice that I have got so off track with fashion and personal appearance that people will start being ‘too polite’ to tell me I look hideous!?
According to that article he thinks women spend around £350 per month in USA on ‘beauty maintenance’ and up to a further £500 on fitness and personal training! Can this be right? Every month? I think he went to some mega rich places in America because going by the average salaries for ‘young women’ here in UK I doubt they’d splash out on that all the time!
How much does the average person spend in the UK on their appearance (including things like gym memberships, make-up, clothes, creams, therapy, tanning, hair styling products etc)?
