Yes these things have actually been said in conversation on Big Brother over the years and it turns out that it’s coming back! Is that a good thing?
Big Brother will be back on the small screen this summer after Richard Desmond’s Channel 5 finally concluded eight months of negotiations to buy the format from Endemol in a two-year £200m deal.
Well, I am not sure how you all feel about this but apparently it’s true – Big Brother will return to our screens this year! However, instead of it’s usual Channel 4 all summer slot, it’ll be Channel 5 all autumn! The new Channel 5 owner was due to announce that he had also purchased the Big Brother format last year, but was unable to because of tense negotiations and a fall out with the Endemol chief executive, Ynon Kreiz. All the issues have been pit behind the two bosses now after delegating the negotiations and completing the deal via their intermediaries.
I guess he wanted a lower price!
After running the autumn schedule in 2011, Channel 5 says the show will return to it’s original summer slot in 2012. Channel 5’s boss said he wanted to maximise the revenue the show might be able to bring in during the latter part of this year, rather than wait to recoup some of that £200m investment!
Personally, I think it’ll seem strange (not) watching it on Channel 4 and I am not sure if I could get used to flicking it over to Channel 5 after not watching that channel for so many years! Do you watch Channel 5? What actually comes on there? I think once they got rid of the 9 o’clock movie, there was nothing left for me to watch.
Channel 4 has benefited immensely from having the show there for the last 10 years so I am sure if Channel 5 bosses are smart, they can use it in their favour as well. A good programme just before and just after Big Brother will perhaps tempt people not to skip the channel out completely and sticking around. Big Brother allowed Channel 4 to rake in the cash with advertisers, with the show providing 25% of total ad revenue. They invested that money well and provided us with many popular shows such as My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Embarrassing Bodies.
Can Channel 5 do the same?

Are you excited for the return of BB?
I might actually watch it. OK, fine! I’ll most definitely be watching it though I hate to admit it! Channel 5 had better deliver!
