Earlier today, Google launched their first real stab at the mobile phone market with the announcement of their Nexus One.

I am pretty excited about this little announcement, because I am about ready for an upgrade on my current iPhone 3G contract and it just means I have a little more to think about before clicking ‘upgrade’ to 3GS..

I have little information at the moment about the Nexus, but I know it must be good if Google has their name plastered on it!  I am going to wait at least a month until all the user reviews are out on the Internet before deciding I think.  I do like Google as a company and pretty much all of their products are amazing!  They are always testing new things which I like and they actually listen to user reviews and suggestions!

A phone with built in Google maps and free SatNav to start with, has got to be good for any tech savvy person.  I think, the thing that will be ‘make or break’ for this new offering is whether it is cross-compatible with existing iPhone technologies.  People, including me, are using their phones to do more and more these days.  So a phone that does not cooperate with software like iTunes, Mac OS, Windows file manager etc just will not do.

So Google, come on and make some sort of arrangement with Apple so it works with iTunes!  Or even better..  Come up with an iTunes beating piece of software..  Hmm..

Anyway, here are some of the ‘basic’ specs that I have at the moment.  I am sure I’ll make an update when more details are available :-)

  • 3.7 inch touchscreen
  • 1GHz snapdragon processor
  • 5 Megapixel camera with LED flash
  • GPS and compass
  • Accelerometer
  • Noise cancellation technology
  • Voice recognition can be used with all applications
  • Light sensor changes screen brightness to converge power
  • 512MB Flash memory with SD card slot (expandable to 32GB)

Will you get one?
