Take 2010 by the horns!

I can’t believe it’s 2010! As in 10 years since the ‘Millennium Bug’ and the Millennium Dome. Seriously? Those memories do not seem that long ago at all. That kind of stuff just makes me feel old.

Well the new year is here anyway. 2009 felt like a long year, filled with many changes and developments. Probably the most shocking thing for me were all the deaths in the news and around me. Michael Jackson of course being one of the biggest headlines. But a more local death of the 39 year old security guard at my workplace came as a much bigger shock to me. It really made me evaluate things and think about my own life. He was so young to die of natural causes. He, like me, probably assumed he’d be around till at least retirement age and beyond. It just really goes to show that life is so precious and we really don’t realise what we have until it’s taken from us.

My plans for 2010 revolve around making the most of every situation. I really need to appreciate the fact that I have access to so many things I just assume will always be there. Family, friends, food, shelter, health, education. These are just some of the things that I wake up each day assuming to still be there. Seriously. I need to show some more appreciation.

2009 for me was filled with a lot of negative energy. Complaining about things that, upon looking back, complaining wasn’t necessary. I could have turned negative situations around into something positive for myself or those around me. Ahh well, nothing like looking back on things and realising how foolish you were eh?

Time – is everything. Don’t wait till it’s too late. Why not start that task / challenge now? Instead of next week, when I next…If (fill the blank) happens.. etc etc. There is no time like the present. I need to stop putting things off before life passes me by. Earlier last year I had put something off for a long time, which turned out to be too long.. I can’t rewind, so now I need to move on. Things could have been so different had I just done it there and then, yet I didn’t.

This year will not be a repeat. I am ‘taking the bull by it’s horns‘.
