FINALLY a UK town has agreed to get rid of their speed cameras altogether! I think, as a driver, that’s great news! The cameras do nothing but cause people to slow down just before they reach them and then speed back up again after.
I am not for people speeding, however, I think better techniques could be used. Also the cost of running the five cameras in Swindon alone was over £300,000 per year! I think the extra money would be much better spent elsewhere.
Road safety charity Brake said the council’s decision to get rid of the cameras was “reckless” and said it was “entering into a very dangerous experiment with people’s lives.”
Huray for drivers of Swindon, no more of the annoying cameras. I think people generally drive responsibly anyway and the ones who do break the law aren’t deterred by these cameras anyway.
