You may remember me complaining about the silly broadband speeds that we here in the UK have to put up with. However, change is on the horizon. Ebbsfleet of all places will be getting ultra high speed broadband of up to 100MB/s! Yes, so we are talking excellent in comparison with the average of 1-4MB/s widely available in UK. In the news article link the newspaper states:
“most consumers do not need speeds anywhere near 100Mbps”
Which, I think isn’t relavent because when I use the internet I just don’t want to have to wait for page to load. The same as when I turn on my computer, I don’t want to wait for applications to load. The idea of any web page or music download taking less than a second is perfect to me! We seem to have been so behind in the broadband race compared to some places in the world, maybe because of companies taking this ‘customers do not need it’ attitude?
When will it be released in Nottingham? That is another question..
Home broadband isn’t the only form of high speed connection joining the high speed data race. Vodafone has decided to increase the speed of their 3g network so soon we can expect speeds of up to 5MB/s on our mobile phones! Almost the same as a lot of people’s home broadband connection! I know I’ll be switching to Voda when my phone contract is up for renewal, since I am always draining the 3g internet!
